Here are the various types of free bed plans available on this site including a brief description of each. Happy building!

Bunk Bed Plans
A bunk bed has two bed frames with one directly above the other. They're ideal for rooms with limited floor space such as children's rooms, ships, dorms, cabins, and even prison cells. Bunk beds for young children often contain a safety railing around the top bunk and a ladder on the side or back for climbing up or down.

Futon Bed Plans
A futon is a traditional style of Japanese bed although many futon bed plans are for the larger Western style futon. Western-style futon beds are an inexpensive, contemporary alternative to a traditional bed. Included are plans for futon platform beds and convertible futon sofa beds that provide dual use as a bed or a couch/sofa. 

Kid's Bed Plans
Playful and functional bed plans for children including boat beds, racing car beds, bunk beds, trundle beds, platform beds with storage underneath, and even a hockey goal bed. For other kid's bed ideas, check out the bunk bed and loft bed categories.

Loft Bed Plans
A loft bed is basically a bunk bed that has only the top bunk, with the open space underneath used for storage drawers, a desk, a sofa, a play area, or whatever else you have in mind. This versatility makes loft beds a great choice for college dorms or for a child's room with limited floor space.

Murphy Bed Plans
A Murphy bed, also known as a wall bed, or fold-away bed is a bed that flips up for vertical storage inside a closet or cabinet.  A Murphy bed is ideal for the guest bedroom, or other occasional use sleeping situations because they take up very little space when folded against the wall.

Platform Bed Plans
A platform bed is a bed that does not require a box spring. Instead, the mattress lies on a platform raised off the floor by legs or framing, with the space underneath optionally used for storage.  Platform beds may have a headboard but typically do not have a footboard.

Poster Bed Plans
A poster bed or four post bed consists of a bed frame with tall posts, often capped with finials, at the corners of the headboard and footboard.  The posts on a traditional style poster bed support a rectangular "tester" which allows for the hanging of bed curtains. A pencil post bed is a type of poster bed that features long tapering posts.

Storage Bed Plans
A storage bed provides storage for clothing, bedding, and other bedroom items via storage compartments underneath the bed or perhaps built into the headboard or footboard. Some platform bed designs provide roll-out storage drawers under the bed. In theory, any bed with open space underneath can be made into a storage bed by the addition of under bed storage units.

Misc Bed Plans
This category includes miscellaneous bed plans in a variety of types and styles, including sleigh beds, Mission beds, Shaker beds, generic beds, and portable camp beds. In other words, beds that don't fit into any of the other categories.
